Excuses get in the way of reaching our goals. Do you have excuses to avoid exercise? Don’t stay stuck there! You can overcome your excuses and be successful. Check out these simple tips to help you push through anything that’s holding you back from your goals.
When I talk with ladies, I hear three main excuses to not making exercise a priority:
• Lack of time
• No energy
• Don’t “feel” like it
For people that struggle with having a lack of time to work out, I hear you. No one has extra time in their day, no matter who you are. However we need to make ourselves our priority. A simple way to manage your time is to lay out your exercise clothes the night before. Get excited for the “me time” scheduled for the next day! It’s also time efficient if you have an exercise plan to follow. If you’ve decided to exercise, but don’t have a plan, you may be wasting your time. I’ve spent time walking around a gym clueless. I’ve also tried to put together a home workout as I go. Neither experience was effective! You need a plan to best manage your time and earn results.
If you have no energy, exercise will help with that in a short amount of time. Push through feeling tired and put your sneakers on. Just get started. You will feel more energetic and better at the end of your workout. It may be helpful if you eat a small snack that includes healthy carbs and protein about an hour before your workout. If you begin your workout “starving”, you may not be able to give your best effort.
For people that just don’t feel like exercising, I know how that feels. Somedays I could think of a lot of other things that I’d rather be doing. Even when I don’t feel like it, I push myself to do it anyway. I know I will feel better and accomplished when I’m finished. You can overcome your feelings too! Think about how you’re going to feel when it’s over. Think about how proud you’re going to feel when you complete another day of exercise.
Creating an exercise goal for the week can help you make exercise a priority. If you want to run 6 miles, or complete 5 workouts, write your goal down. Then, make your goal visual. Also sharing your goal with a friend can help you stay focused. Having accountability from a friend is extremely effective. Don’t forget to check in with him/her about your progress during the week.
Don’t forget living a healthy lifestyle isn’t about abusing your body or restricting yourself because you hate yourself. Living a healthy lifestyle is a choice to fuel your body and move it because you love yourself. You want to be better for yourself, for your family/friends, and your community. Take the first step and get started! I know you can do this!
