I absolutely love the holidays. Don’t you?? There is so much to celebrate October through January! However, all that celebrating can add up fast on the scale if we aren’t careful.
My family enjoys celebrating Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas, & the New Year with our traditions & spending time with my favorite people. It makes me happy to decorate, cook, bake, buy gifts, be generous, host parties, watch ALL the Christmas movies, attend church services, and do all things holiday!
I think most of us would agree one of the best parts of each holiday is the special food. Halloween candy…Thanksgiving turkey & dressing…Christmas cookies, big dinners, and New Year’s party drinks & foods. My mouth is watering just thinking about it. BUT there are some less than positive parts of the seasons…busy schedules, stressful family get togethers, financial stress, and pressure to make this the best holiday EVER!
Food & stress can be the perfect storm to packing on the pounds. To be honest, in the past I have gained 10 lbs. by the New Year. That’s a lot of weight to lose if you’re already struggling with your weight. And weight gain can lead to more pounds gained if you’re discouraged. It can be a horrible cycle to be stuck in. I know, I’ve been there. Thankfully, I’ve learned that “diets” aren’t the solution.
Here’s what I’ve found works for me & I encourage these healthy habits with the clients I work with:
- Drink water and avoid sugary drink. Calories are better eaten J
- Write specific “bite size” goals for the month
- Move more, starting with just 15 minutes of moving more adds up
- Keep a food diary & stay honest with yourself!
- Get accountability by sharing your goals & progress with a coach or friend that wants to see you succeed
- Choose less processed foods with most meals
- Enjoy a treat meal every week
I created a November calendar for my clients that includes a simple, healthy habit for each day. I know that making small positive changes consistently leads to better habits. And over time good habits will replace “bad” habits.
Would you like to receive a copy of my November Healthy Holiday calendar? I’d love to share it with you! Just click here to request it and you can get started today with a healthy habit. You are welcome to participate & share your healthy habits each day on IG or FB with the #Unstoppablewomen. I will draw one winner from all members that participate later this month to receive a prize. It’s my mission to help my clients overcome what has held them back in the past. You can be unstoppable with the right tools and support!
