I love the holidays. It’s a magical time of making memories with my family and enjoying meaningful traditions year after year. Family celebrations always include fun & food in my family. Everything from breakfast casserole to an orange sherbert punch my grandfather loved. The yumminess is at a high level! However, I aim to balance it out with not overindulging and balancing it out with healthier choices.
But let’s be honest….It can be hard to get out of the mode of holiday eating and splurging on treats! But don’t hide in the closet & keep eating candy!
Just like you cleaned up Christmas chaos of wrapping paper and boxes, you can clean up your food choices with a little effort.
Here are my tips to cleaning up your eating habits after a busy holiday season.
1. Choose your attitude! Having an attitude of guilt or hating yourself for getting lost in a box of candy won’t help. Stay positive and focus on your commitment to make improvements. You want to improve your health, but beating yourself up mentally will not help you to make healthier choices. Be a cheerleader for yourself!
2. Find all the leftover temptations and move’em out! When treats are out of sight & out of reach,it will be easier for you to make healthy choices.
3. Restock your fridge and pantry with healthy choices like whole grains, lean proteins, healthy fats, and complex carbs. Having good choices available will help you to fuel your body to reach your goals & have more energy.
4. Create your goals for 2017. Dream BIG and be specific with your goal! What can you do in January to support your goal? Maybe that’s learning to fuel your body better and/or following an exercise plan. Write it down and do it!
5. Make a plan to reach your goal. You need a road map to get you where you want to go. Without a plan, your goal may only be a wish. If you want to lose 50 lbs or 10 lbs next year, you’ll need to follow a plan to work on your goal. Reaching health & fitness goals are never a short term quick fix. (RUN from any quick fix offers and don’t waste your money!) It makes time, patience, and commitment to make it happen. But you can do it if you take the 1st step. The only thing that is guaranteed is that you won’t make progress without taking the 1st step. So be brave!
It made me so happy to hear from some of my members in my online Fresh Start group that they didn’t gain ANY weight over the Christmas holiday. That is worthy of major high fives through the computer screen!!! This accomplishment shows they are committed to living a healthy lifestyle. The members of this group have been working on creating healthy eating & exercise habits this month. They have been following a simple nutrition plan that focuses on whole food choices & following an at home exercise plan. Plus staying connected to the private group for support, accountability, and encouragement.
