Let’s be honest….Have you given up on your health/fitness goal?
We begin the year, month, or the day with the self pep talk. THIS time I will do it! I’ll avoid junk & get sweaty every day! But before you slip into a new pant size, you fall off the goal wagon. Believe me, I’m NOT judging. The day gets busy with endless tasks and family responsibilities. This leads to a missed workout. The temptations at the office party win the war of your new “no-carb” diet. No, I don’t have a surveillance team recording your every move. This is a trend that I see in many of women that come to me as clients.
These women had good intentions to feel better. More confident. Stronger. And maybe they even had a decent plan to follow. However somewhere before day 1 and day 5, they quit. Usually because they made a “mistake” (aka eating a cupcake, skipping a workout, late night snacks). Then started to believe they would never reach their goal. They start thinking…”Why not give up now? It will only end like the last time”. Don’t believe that stinky thinking! I’ve help clients break through this cycle. You can do it too.
How I stopped the Madness
My story is probably a lot like yours. For way too long, I wrestled with a brutal cycle of starting & restarting without finding success. I cheated on any plan I attempted to follow. My self control was invisible but junk food was easy to find. My self talk was meaner than a bully. It was madness! Thankfully,I broke through this cycle of bad habits with support and lost weight. With the support of a coach, I built habits to support my goals. My focus shifted to making decisions that created positive change instead of trying to follow extremes. I began to choose meals based on what fueled my body best. Let’s face it, junk food makes us feel like junk! My workouts were no longer something to dread because the challenge was fun. My “bad” habits slowly died as my healthier choices became habit. Here’s the best part….My perspective changed. I started to realize my health journey doesn’t have a finish line. It’s great to lose weight but feeling strong is better! Why not enjoy the journey while treating my body/mind with respect?
Please know YOU can break through this cycle too!!! I’m not perfect. I still make “mistakes”, but I know a clean slate in waiting for me. I no longer give up on myself. By focusing on staying positive & making daily decisions to support your goals, you can make progress too. Each time you reach for a healthy food choice, decide to be active, or overcome negative feelings… you are creating healthy habits. Keep making healthy decisions and it will be easier to not fall into bad habits. No, it’s not easy sometimes. You may have to white knuckle through some situations. Or talk yourself into packing lunch when you’re tired. BUT why not move forward in your journey? You already know what stuck & frustrated feels like. Just imagine what you could accomplish with the tools & support you need.
