The holiday season is my favorite time of the year! Family traditions, holiday parties, Christmas treats, gift-giving and making memories with our favorite people.
But let’s be honest: the season of big meals, extra servings, stress, and one too many parties can leave us feeling bloated, sluggish and not quite ourselves. Are you ready to ditch those “yucky” feelings?
You can get back to feeling like yourself, or a healthier you, by choosing to hit the reset button for 2018. Don’t stay stuck moving into 2018.
Here are my simple steps to help you kick off 2018 healthy & confident:
1. Get Back Into a Routine ASAP
Life happens. The holidays happen! Don’t feel guilty for enjoying your time and treats over Christmas. I hope you made lots of memories with loved ones. Enjoy those memories without adding stress to your life. Try your best to get back to your routine. The first few days after the holidays may feel slow and harder than usual mentally and physically. Don’t let that stop you! Get to bed earlier, wake up at your normal time, take a walk, etc. It will get easier in a day or two.
2. Set Realistic and Sustainable Goals
Most people set themselves up to fail by creating goals they can’t reach. Then, the lack of progress at a fast pace leads to quitting. Remember it’s not possible to lose 10 lbs in a week! By setting small, attainable goals, you are more likely to succeed and stay motivated.
3. Eat Real Food (AKA unprocessed food)
Keep your meals simple and full of mostly unprocessed foods. Focus on consuming lean proteins, fresh vegetables, nuts, seeds and whole grains. Instead of worrying about foods you want to avoid, focus on adding in more of whole foods.
4. Stay Hydrated
Aim for drink half your body weight in ounces. Start the day with a glass of water with lemon juice. I drink my first glass of water waiting for my coffee to brew in the morning. This will kick start your metabolism, promote detoxification and get you feeling really awesome!
6. Get moving
Get your heart pumping and work up a sweat. Your sweat can help move out some of the toxins that are floating around in your body. Plus activity will helps feel better physically and mentally by releasing some endorphins, this is the feel good chemical that boost your mood. Get your sneakers ready and go!
7. Stay Connected to a Supportive Community
I love supporting the women in my Facebook community! Every week I post tips, recipes, exercises, and more to support the members in their journey. I have so much to share in 2018 with this group.
